Jay Schuck

Independent Curator and Art Historian

About

I am an independent curator and art historian from Holbrook, NY. I received my B.A. (magna cum laude, 2013) and M.A. (2019) in Art History & Criticism from Stony Brook University. In 2019, I was awarded the inaugural Outstanding M.A. Thesis Award for my paper, Sculpting the Soul: The Bust Portraiture of Gian Lorenzo Bernini.

I have ten years of curatorial experience and have worked on a variety of large-scale visual arts projects.  I manage the Patchogue-Medford Library's Claire Davidson Siegel Gallery and have curated exhibitions across Long Island. My passion for art history has led me to develop several sequential and non-sequential, lecture-based, art historical programs, which I have delivered at libraries and other cultural institutions across Long Island as well as abroad. I have written extensively on the arts of the Greater South Bay area and have been published in ACES Magazine and Greater Patchogue.

In the fall of 2022, I joined the Visual Arts Department of Suffolk County Community College as Adjunct Faculty. I teach the survey courses ART 111: Art History I (Ancient to Renaissance Art) and ART 112: Art History II (Renaissance to 20th Century Art).

In 2023, I joined the Art Department of St. Joseph's University, New York as Adjunct Faculty. I teach the survey courses ART 101: Art History (Prehistoric through Medieval) and ART 102: Art History (Renaissance through Impressionism).
